Glenbow-Alberta Institute sketch photographs, 1856-1860.

Black and white photographs of sketches held by the Glenbow-Alberta Institute, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, drawn by Hölzlhuber, an Austrian visitor to the U.S. between 1856 and 1860. Hölzlhuber resided first in Milwaukee then traveled in Canada and the Mississippi River Valley. He sketched the scenes observed while traveling, published some of his sketches in Harper's Monthly Magazine and elsewhere, and after his return to Austria, used them for lectures and as sources for larger drawings.
